Palliative Treatment

Palliative Treatment

Palliative treatment is performed to alleviate pain or pressure, prevent future damage, or to treat an infection.  In the case of a dying nerve, the tooth will be opened, drained, disinfected, medicated and temporized.  This procedure is separate from nerve therapy (root canal therapy) which will be scheduled at a later date, giving the tooth some time to heal.  After palliative treatment, please make an appointment as soon as possible to have root canal therapy. Until you have had root canal therapy, a post and core and an all ceramic crown to prptect your tooth, you should not bite on this tooth in order to avoid fracture.
